threadmediagroup, which currently comprises 150+ like-minded collaborators, was founded by Dominic Wilhelm who from an early age has worked in broadcast media, motion pictures, full-service communications and cultural studies in Europe and South Africa.

He is currently focusing his energies as a commercial and documentary director and producer. Clients and Partners include The United Nations, General Motors, Hyundai (in association with Versoflex) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Themes such as social cohesion, urban development, identity, climate change and sustainability have been integral to the documentaries and campaigns that Dominic has produced or co-produced. He is passionate about engaging media, motion pictures and communications as a tool for positive social change.

Dominic started his career as the youngest presenter/producer on a national broadcaster in South Africa (SAfm) and attracted attention as someone who often challenged conventional thinking. After presenting and producing on several regional and national radio stations, he then moved into TV presenting with the SABC and later for the BBC in England on a popular science and technologies TV show co-hosted with one of the UK’s entertainment icons. He was also a full-time presenter and producer with two regional UK broadcasters.

Withdrawing from the professional arena for a period, Dominic went on to develop his thoughts on popular culture and postmodernism. Although this proved an invaluable addition to his journalism and media studies, as well as a short period at Oxford University, Dominic is primarily autodidactic.

Dominic has, over the past few years, immersed himself in the Motion Picture and Documentary industry as a producer, writer and director. As general manager of a production company owned by a former MGM VP, he assisted with the acquisition of original stories and development of existing properties which included the writing and development of the sequel to South African cult classic e’Lollipop (also known as Forever Young, Forever Free). Dominic also produced, co-wrote and co-directed a documentary about the film.

The University of Cape Town has recently invited Dominic to present a series of talks based on his documentary, Black Adam. Themes include social cohesion, whiteness, multiculturalism and identity. The series will form the basis of a teaching tool for diversity studies.

Through his company threadmediagroup, Dominic has produced a variety of work including short films, documentaries, commercials and corporate films. He believes strongly in a hands-on approach and is well versed in various aspects of production.
